We are seeking a URA-eligible summer student who is currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at the University of Manitoba (eg. IHP, Biochem, Micro, Nutrition, Biology) to join the lab on a full-time basis from May-August, 2026.
Our team studies how innate immune cells and inflammation contribute to the progression of chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. We are particularly interested in how we can target cell metabolism (fuel-generating pathways) to regulate immune activation.
We work with cell lines, primary immune cells, and mouse models. We are affiliated with DREAM, CHRIM, and CCARM.
Project options include:
- Investigating the mechanisms by which omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) regulate glucose and fatty acid catabolism (mostly wet-lab)
- A tale of two Warburg effects: Targeted metabolomics analysis of monocytes stimulated with lipopolysaccharide or docosahexaenoic acid (mostly dry-lab)
Please reach out to discuss opportunities!
